Abstract

The importance of knowledge sharing has become a key research area in recent research works. Many organizations realize that benefits of knowledge sharing cannot be obtained unless there is the intention to share knowledge. From the existing literature reviews, it reflected that there is lack of participation from knowledge workers, knowledge hoarding and cultural differences in the workplace. This research investigates the knowledge sharing intention based on the use of social network sites as a means for social interaction. This research will analyze knowledge sharing intention by adopting Social Capital Theory with the extension of national culture. Based on the analysis, the results will be able to explain the influence of national culture in addition to the factors from social capital on knowledge sharing intention through social network sites by knowledge workers. This research will conduct the analysis using questionnaire survey in order to determine the influence it will have on knowledge sharing intention applying Structural Equation Modelling (SEM). In short, the proposed model intends to predict knowledge sharing intention from the use of social network sites. Based on the findings on the analysis results, three of the research hypotheses from the Social Capital Theory are supported whereas the research hypothesis on national culture is not supported. The contribution of this research has proven that the social capital among employees is able to motivate employees to share knowledge on social network site where organization can take advantage of this to improve the knowledge sharing in the workplace.
